16:46 UKRZALIZNYTSIA HEAD CONSIDERS UNREASONABLE REFORMING RAILWAY SECTOR IN CURRENT CONDITIONS
Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Reforming the railway sector in the current economic conditions is unwise, State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia Head Mykhailo Kostiuk has said. "The suspension of the [reform] process, retaining centralized management and clear business and financial relations, gives the railways the possibility to overcome the crisis," the administration's press service said, citing Kostiuk. According to Kostiuk, the best option is to reorganize the sector as a state concern with the corresponding legal entities existing nowadays. In addition, it is necessary to retain the regional management structure, taking into consideration the differences between the country's regions. "There is the need to create a state concern and gradually, according to society's demands, reform and incorporate various segments, which will not lower the general level of liquidity and competitiveness of the whole system," Kostiuk said.
