11:40 UKRAINIAN PREMIER CALLS ON FARMERS TO SELL GRAIN TO AGRARIAN FUND
Kyiv, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has called on farmer to sell grain to the Agrarian Fund, rather than sell it at speculative prices. "For you not to sell grain at [speculative] prices, we propose that you sell part of your harvest to the Agrarian Fund at so-called collateral prices – this is 60% of the purchasing price set by the [Agriculture] Ministry," reads a government statement published in the Uriadovy Kurier newspaper on Tuesday. Tymoshenko said that purchasing prices set by the Agriculture Ministry were 30-40% higher than those currently offered by grain traders. She said that farmers could buy out the grain sold to the Agrarian Fund at any time if this is profitable for them. If not, she said that grain would be bought by the state, paying the remaining 40% of the purchasing price.
