Kyiv, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine by August 4 had threshed almost 29.5 million tonnes of grain, harvesting early grain and leguminous plants on an area of 10.5 million hectares, or 80% of the planned area, Deputy Agriculture Minister Roman Shmidt said at briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"Ukraine has threshed almost 29.5 million tonnes of grain. The average productivity of Ukrainian cropland is 28.1 quintals per hectare," he said.

Shmidt said that the yield of all crops had fallen compared to last year.

In particular, farmers harvested almost 18 million tonnes of wheat and 10.2 million tonnes of barley.

As reported, the Agriculture Ministry expects a grain harvest of 42-43 million tonnes this year, against 53.3 million tonnes in 2008.
