Kyiv, July 27 (Interfax) - Ukrainian scrap metal exports fell 29.1% to 296,500 tonnes in the first half of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, the Ukrainian Industrial Policy Ministry told Interfax.

Scrap metal exports totaled 99,700 tonnes in June compared to 58,900 tonnes in May. Exports totaled 131,600 tonnes in June 2008 and 105,900 tonnes in May 2008.

Ukrainian steel mills received 435,200 tonnes of scrap in June amid demand of 466,000 tonnes. Scrap metal stocks totaled 162,000 tonnes on July 1.

Scrap exports by Ukraine fell 7.4% in 2008 to 637,300 tonnes, and supply to Ukrainian steel mills fell 17% to 5.824 million tonnes.
