London, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Somali pirates released the Hansa Stavanger, a German-flagged container vessel with two Ukrainian sailors on board, the BBC has reported. The ship was freed for a ransom, the BBC said. The editor-in-chief of the Maritime Bulletin Sovfracht online news site, Mikhail Voitenko, said on Monday that the Hansa Stavanger would soon be released. "According to the latest reports, a ransom of over $2.7 million has already been delivered to the ship," he said. As reported, Somali pirates hijacked the Hansa Stavanger, operated by Hamburg-based Leonhardt & Blumberg, in the Indian Ocean between Kenya and the Seychelles on April 4. The ship's crew includes five Germans, three Russians, two Ukrainians, two Filipinos, 11 Tuvaluans, and one sailor from Fiji. | |
