11:33 SEARCH OPERATIONS AT SITE OF WRECK OF SHIP WITH RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN CREW STILL GOING ON, SAYS DIPLOMAT
Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Search and rescue operations at the site of the wreck of a Norwegian-registered dry cargo ship, the Langeland, which had a Russian-Ukrainian crew of six people, have not yet produced any positive results, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine. "Search and rescue operations are underway, but they have not yet produced any positive results. The bodies of the [presumed] deceased have not been found," ministry spokesman Vasyl Kyrylych said on Friday. He said that it had already been reported that two of the six crewmembers were Ukrainian citizens. Kyrylych said that the ship had gone down during a storm. The Langeland, which was carrying a cargo of stone to the Norwegian city of Moss, with a Ukrainian-Russian crew of six, sank near the Oslofjord, a bay located off the west coast of Sweden, in the early hours of July 31. The Norwegian maritime rescue center received a signal from the ship that it was listing and sinking. Life vests and life rafts have been found at the site where the ship sank.
