11:54 RODOVID BANK HOPES FOR FURTHER COOPERATION WITH ITS DEPOSITORS
Kyiv, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some of Kyiv-based Rodovid Bank's depositors will continue to work with the bank after they receive deposits that have fallen due, according to Serhiy Scherbyna, the bank's temporary administrator. "Between 34% and 35% [of the depositors] have deposited their money [at the bank] again… We plan that as of next week the figure will be 50-60%," he said at a briefing on Tuesday. According to Scherbyna, as of August 3, the bank renewed payments on deposits: in the first two days the bank paid out UAH 29 million. However, he said, the bank did not manage to prevent lines forming at the bank – depositors are offered water, and the elderly are offered seats. "Everything is proceeding normally," he said. The banker said that two more branches of Rodovid Bank will start work in Kyiv as of August 10 to service depositors. He said the bank has obligations to depositors estimated at UAH 2.2 billion, while the Cabinet of Ministers provided the bank with UAH 2.8 billion to replenish its working capital, and the bank has enough funds to meet the claims of all clients. As reported, the government in June 2008 decided to capitalize three Ukrainian banks: Ukrgasbank (UAH 3.1 billion), Rodovid Bank (UAH 2.809 billion) and Bank Kyiv (UAH 3.565 billion), sending state domestic loan bonds worth the said sum to their statutory capitals. Thus, the state will get a 99.97% stake in Rodovid Bank, a 99.94% stake in Bank Kyiv, and an 81.58% stake in Ukrgasbank.
