POLITICIANS SHOULD GIVE UP POPULISM, START SAVING UKRAINE, SAYS YATSENIUK

Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Leader of the Front for Change public initiative Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that Ukraine's future depends on politicians giving up populism.

He said this in an interview with the Komsomolska Pravda in Ukraine newspaper, while commenting on the inactivity of the Ukrainian authorities in the face of the second wave of the financial crisis, which according to Citigroup Global Markets analysts may reach Ukraine this fall, the Front for Change's press service reported on Wednesday.

The bottom of the economic crisis hasn't been reached yet, Yatseniuk said. He believes the crisis will continue for at least a year.

"There is a certain time delay between the world and Ukraine. This means that if the world overcomes the crisis in 2010, Ukraine will [only] start coping with it in 2011," he said.

At the same time, the future depends only on the ability of the politicians to realize that they need to give up populist methods.

"Populists cost Ukraine a lot: there will be neither Ukraine, nor an economy, nor a budget, nor enterprises - there will be nothing as a result," Yatseniuk said.
