Kyiv, July 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The number of Ukrainian visiting Turkey in first half of 2009 has decreased by 21.7% compared to the same period in 2008, to 248,700 people, the Starget PR Agency has reported, referring to the information provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.

An official statement of the Turkish Embassy in Ukraine has confirmed reports of a falling number of Ukrainian visitors. The officials said this was due to the difficult economic situation in Ukraine, the devaluation of the national currency, and the decreasing income of people and business activity in general.

However, the embassy officials said that they expected the volume of tourists to increase in July-August.

On the other hand, according to the information of the embassy, the recession has affected the tourism sector of the country significantly.
