12:51 MOSCOW HOPES UKRAINE WILL STOP ARMING GEORGIA - DIPLOMAT
Moscow, August 5 (Interfax) - Ukraine will hopefully stop playing dangerous games with arms shipments to Georgia, complicating relations between Moscow and Kyiv, already tense, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said. "We do hope that Ukraine, as a state near to us, will stop playing these dangerous games, creating problems in current relations, already problematical," Karasin told the media on Wednesday when asked whether Ukraine supplies arms to Georgia. Verified reports available to the Russian side suggest Ukraine had been engaged in arms shipments ahead of the five-day war in the South Caucasus in August 2008. "This information was partly confirmed by Ukrainian lawmakers after they probed into it," Karasin said. "We will be watching closely and we remain in permanent contact with Ukrainian officials. We asked them questions and they provided explanations. Most of them are insufficient, but the discussion of this issue with our Ukrainian colleagues is continuing," the Russian diplomat said.
