Kyiv, August 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Mariupol maritime merchant port (Donetsk region) in January to July 2009 saw cargo handling fall by 28.8% year-on-year, to 6.75 million tonnes, the port has told Interfax-Ukraine. Metal handling in the period fell by 17.1%, to 3.64 million tonnes, and coal transshipment by 15%, to 1.92 million tonnes. The enterprise did not handle sulphur during the period. Grain handling at Mariupol port in the seven months grew by almost three times, to 480,200 tonnes. Mariupol port is one of the largest ports in Ukraine. It accepts vessels of lengths up to 240 meters and drafts of up to eight meters. The port transships iron and base metals, cast iron, ore, coal, coke, clay, fertilizers of all kinds, sulphur, equipment (including outsize and heavyweight), fuel oil (ship-to-ship transfers), grain, containers and packaged goods. | |
