Kyiv, July 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources has invited Ukrainian contractors to participate in a tender to build a dam in the Kurdistan region of the country, the Ukrainian Construction Association (UCA) has said.

The invitation was submitted to the association by the Ukraine-Iraq Chamber of Commerce.

"In the near future the UCA will distribute technical guidelines [on the project] to its members to receive some suggestions from Ukrainian builders. Currently, the association is receiving letters from Ukrainian building companies confirming their readiness to participate in the tender," the press release states.

As reported, the UCA signed a memo of understanding with the Ukrainian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce (UICC) on further cooperation between the two countries on construction and the supply of construction materials from Ukraine to Iraq.

As stipulated in the memorandum, the UICC is a leading representative in the development of commercial and economic cooperation between Iraq and Ukraine, and the UCA is the leading supplier via the UICC of Ukrainian companies' developing and construction services in Iraq.

According to previous reports, early in March 2009 the UCA and the Kurdistan Constructors Union/Erbil Branch (KCU) signed a memorandum on cooperation in construction.

The Iraqi side provided the Ukrainian delegates with a list of facilities for construction worth a total of $1.172 billion for consideration of the possible participation of its members in construction projects.

The UCA was set up in 2005. It unites over 200 construction and real estate companies.
