Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Illichivsk maritime merchant port (Odesa region) in January to July 2009 saw cargo turnover fall by 14.7% year-on-year, to 9.44 million tonnes, according to the port.

Cargo turnover at the port in July 2009 fell by 22.7%, to 1.17 million tonnes. General cargo transshipment dropped by 46.8%, bulk cargo handling by 9.1%, while liquid cargo handling was up by 2.1 times.

The port of Illichivsk is one of the four largest Ukrainian ports. It has the capacity to handle more than 30 million tonnes of cargo annually. It has a 6,000-meter long quay with 29 berths. It also has three railway entry points and three checkpoints for road transport at the port.

In 2008, the port increased cargo turnover by 18% compared to 2007, to 18.9 million tonnes.
