13:50 HIGHER SOCIAL STANDARDS WILL COMPENSATE FOR HIGHER GAS AND ELECTRICITY BILLS, SAYS MP POPOV
Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Increasing the minimum salary and subsistence level will partially compensate people for higher gas and electricity bills, MP Oleksandr Popov (Regions Party) stated on Friday. The MP noted that according to a decision of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, the gas charges for the public would be 20% higher starting from September 1. Apart from that, the gas charges for heat supply companies will be increased by 20% starting from October 1. "We have dissatisfying prospects for 2010. The cabinet has sent a letter to the International Monetary Fund about its plan to increase the charges by a further 20% every three months starting from January 1, 2010," the MP said. Popov said that the growing prices result from the agreements between the Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom signed last year.
