16:44 FALL IN GRAIN PRICES IN UKRAINE REPLACED BY GROWTH
Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The fall in the price of grain on the domestic market seen at the beginning of the new marketing year (MY, July 2009 to June 2010) in late July has been replaced by a rise - despite the active harvesting campaign and expanding supply, farming analysts say. ProAgro said that during the week ending on July 31, the prices of fodder and bread wheat grew by UAH 30 per tonne on average, and prices for barley soared by UAH 50 per tonne. A price slide was seen on the corn market last week of UAH 20 per tonne. The analysts said that the grain price growth is linked with growing demand from exporters. The experts said that export activity on the grain market is bolstered by the hryvnia's appreciation to the dollar and a rise in the price of grain on the global market. "The prices of grain have reached their bottom and started growing," an expert from UkrAgroConsulting center, Elizaveta Malyshko, said. She said that in the near future, the prices of wheat could stabilize, but that prices of barley would continue growing.
