12:39 EUROPEAN SPECIALISTS MIGHT INSPECT UKRAINE'S DAIRIES AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER
Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Specialists from the European Commission Directorate General for Health and Consumers (SANCO) are planning in September 2009 to visit Ukraine to again inspect Ukrainian dairies to possibly provide them with the right to export produce to the European Union, Petro Verbytsky, the head of the State Veterinary Medicine Committee of Ukraine, has reported. "We are expecting the SANCO specialists to visit Ukraine twice in September and October," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday. Verbytsky confirmed the specialists plan to inspect Ukraine's beef producers in October 2009. The European specialists will estimate the level of biosecurity in Ukraine while producing milk and beef goods. Verbytsky said the list of enterprises to be examined is being worked out. About eight to ten dairies are to be inspected, while the number of beef producers that will undergo checks is unknown. Many dairies in Ukraine correspond to the requirements of the European Union - the problem is with products made from milk, Verbytsky said. Unfortunately, according to Verbytsky, there are few enterprises in Ukraine able to produce milk raw materials corresponding to the European standards.
