Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The net loss of Erste Bank (Kyiv) in January to June 2009 was UAH 343.168 million, while in 2008 its net profit was UAH 5.402 million, according to Erste Bank CEO Jozef Sikela. According to Sikela, the bank's loss in the first half of 2009 is fully covered by the bank's capital and was expected given the worsening situation on the market. The bank's net loss in the second quarter of 2009 was UAH 199.517 million, while its net profit in 2008 was UAH 4.327 million. According to the banker, the bank's net interest income in the first half of 2009 grew to UAH 252.1 million compared to UAH 206.6 million as of July 1, 2008. Its commission income fell to UAH 15.8 million, while in the first half of 2008 the indicator was UAH 21.9 million. OJSC Erste Bank (earlier Prestige Bank) was registered in 2006. As of April 1, 2009, Erste Group Bank AG (Austria) remained the only shareholder in the bank. According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of April 1, 2009, the bank ranked 22nd (UAH 9.68 billion) in terms of total assets among the 182 banks operating in Ukraine. | |
