Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Electricity generation by NPPs of National Nuclear generating Company Energoatom in January to July 2009 tentatively fell by 11.8% or 6.369 billion kWh year-over-year, to 47.647 billion kWh, Energoatom has told Interfax-Ukraine. In the seven months, the electricity generation target was over-fulfilled by 1.8%. Zaporizhia NPP in January to July 2009 cut electricity generation by 4.2%, to 23.046 billion kWh, and Khmelnytsky NPP cut generation by 0.8%, to 6.9 billion kWh, while Rivne NPP cut electricity generation by 22.7%, to 7.996 billion kWh, and Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP, taking into account Tashlyk hydro power plant and Oleksandrivka hydro power plant, cut electricity generation by 23.4%, to 9.7 billion kWh. In the seven months ending July 2009, electricity transmission of Energoatom's NPPs went down by 12% or by 6.095 billion kWh, to 44.67 billion kWh. The utilization of generating capacity at the nuclear power plants in January to July 2009 was 67.5%, while in January to July 2008 it was 76.2%. The number of malfunctions at NPPs fell by 11 year-over-year, to five. According to the INES (International Nuclear Events Scale) the faults were classed as zero or not effecting the safety of the nuclear power plants, the Energoatom's press service reported. Tashlyk hydro power plant tentatively generated 122.255 million kWh of electricity, and Oleksandrivka hydro power plant generated 25.494 million kWh. Energoatom runs 15 VVER reactors at four NPPs with an overall generating capacity of 13.835 megawatts.
