Tbilisi/Almaty, July 29 (Interfax) - In January-June 2009 the assets of Georgia-based BTA Bank decreased by 9.6% to 144.9 million lari, according to the bank's financial statements. In the year from June 30, 2008 to June 30, 2009 the assets of the banks shrank by 7.3%. During the year the loan portfolio of the bank reduced by 3.8% to 101.2 million lari as at June 30, 2009. The share of problem loans in all the loans given by the bank grew from 4.8% to 24.4%. The liabilities reduced by 8.1% to 108.4 million lari as at June 30 this year. The registered capital decreased by 4.9% to make 36.5 million lari. In January-June 2009 the bank reported 3.7 million lari of net loss as compared 3.8 million lari of net profit in the same period last year. In March 2005 Kazakhstan-based TuranAlem (now called BTA Bank) purchased a 49% stake in Georgia's Silk Road Bank for $2.5 million. The other shareholders of BTA are: Financial Group Silk Road (24%), ZRL Beteiligungs AG (18%) and Interfunding Facilities Limited (9%). | |
