18:50 AMCU CALLS ON CITIZENS TO SEND COMPLAINS AGAINST REGIONAL CABLE OPERATORS
Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The acting head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) Oleksandr Melnychenko has called on Ukrainian citizens to send complaints about local cable television operators to the territorial departments of the committee. "The antitrust agency believes that the practice of the forced transfer of consumers from analogue television to digital is inadmissible. We will not stand by when charges for cable television services are increased and will demand operators set economically justifiable charges. We need an effective link with citizens to take swift decisions," the committee's press service reported, citing Melnychenko. He said that the public should inform the committee's departments about unjustifiable increases in cable television tariffs by providers and on the violation of agreement terms. The committee also expects official written applications from citizens regarding the actions of cable television operators, where citizens should clearly and step-by-step outline the problems, attaching copies of receipts, letters and other documents. As reported, in July the antitrust agency decided to impose a UAH 1 million of fine on each of the following companies: Volia-Cable Ltd., OAO IVK and OJSC Kyiv Telecommunications Network (KTM, all based in Kyiv). The company, in turn, said that the Antimonopoly Committee had conducted unjustified investigations vis-à-vis the cable TV provider companies belonging to the Volia group, located not only in Kyiv, but in the regions.
