Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Yuzhny maritime merchant port (Odesa region) in January to July 2009 saw cargo handling fall by 5.2% year-on-year, to8.09 million tonnes, according to the port. In July the port transshipped 1.24 million tonnes of cargo. In the period, the port handled 447 vessels and 101,450 high-sided wagons, and in July alone it handled 46 vessels and 10,610 high-sided wagons Yuzhny port was founded in 1978. It is located on the coast of the Adzhalyk firth and is the deepest harbor in Ukraine (the depth of its mooring channel is 15.5 meters, and the depth at its docks is 14 to 15.5 meters). The length of its berths is around 2.6 kilometers. It is able to handle up to 15 million tonnes of cargo a year. | |
