Kyiv, August 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has praised the timely payments made by Naftogaz Ukrainy for imported Russian natural gas, Presidential Envoy on International Energy Security Bohdan Sokolovsky has stated.

"The president is sure that Ukraine has once again confirmed its responsible position as a stable gas supplier and partner to both East and West," he said.

Yuschenko's envoy said that officials should reach agreement with the European Commission and international financial institutions on getting credit to pay for gas to be pumped to Ukraine's underground storage facilities in 2009.

According to Sokolovsky, the gas is being transferred underground according to schedule.

"As a result, we can guarantee stable gas supplies to our European and Ukrainian consumers in autumn and winter," he said.

As reported, the Naftogaz Ukrainy paid $605 million to Gazprom for gas supplies in July.
