Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych has stated Ukraine's intention to accelerate the privatization of state assets in 2007.

Yanukovych stated this during a meeting with representatives of Germany's leading business communities and the leadership of the Eastern German Economic Committee in Berlin.

In particular, Yanukovych said that the Cabinet of Ministers expected the Ukrtelecom telecommunications company, the Ukrnafta oil company, and the Odesa portside factory to be privatized this year.

According to him, the mechanism for privatizing such enterprises is presently being drafted.

He also said that the government intends to sell some of its shares in these enterprises on the stock exchange.

He also stated the Cabinet of Ministers' intention to ensure a transparent privatization process and facilitate access of Ukrainian companies to international stock markets to enable them to realize their real values.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the State Property Fund intends to offer 10% of the shares in Ukrtelecom and 10% of the shares in the Odesa portside plant for sale after the Cabinet of Ministers approves procedures for selling shares in these companies.
