Kyiv, July 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian companies today do not have the technologies to produce locomotives for high-speed operations, the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) has said. "Production of high-speed operating rolling stock in Ukraine is possible, but only in close cooperation with more skilled international producers," Oleksandr Honcharov, the head of the state scientific and research railway transport center state company, part of Ukrzaliznytsia, said at a press conference organized by Management Consulting Group in Kyiv on Tuesday. Deputy head of the chief department for suburban passenger transportation at Ukrzaliznytsia, Volodymyr Skoblenko, said that Ukrainian producers have only declared that they are able to produce high-speed locomotives. "There are [declarations], but we don't have any examples of locomotives that can reach a speed of 160 kmph," he said. The first deputy of the chief department for suburban passenger transportation at Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Hudkov, said that according to a memorandum signed with South Korea's Hyundai Corporation, Ukraine is to buy 17 trains, which would be designed specifically for Ukraine and under certain financial conditions. | |
