Moscow, July 17 (Interfax-Telecom) – Ukrainian mobile operators' clientele in June 2009 shrank by 0.4% compared to May, to 54.83 million subscribers.

AC&M Consulting said in its report, the cellular communications penetration rate was 119.1% against 119.5% registered in May.

Ukraine's largest mobile operator CJSC Kyivstar GSM, which accounted for 40.5% of the market in June, serviced 22.224 million subscribers against 22.729 million in May.

As of the second half of 2009, Kyivstar GSM amended its methods for calculating its subscribers: Pre-paid subscribers whose sim-card activity over the past three months was limited to receiving information messages from the operator will not now be considered active.

CJSC UMC, a subsidiary of Russia's OAO MTS, serviced 17.781 million subscribers against 17.73 million last month and occupied 32.4% of the market.

Astelit LLC with 11.697 million subscribers accounted for 21.3% of the mobile communications clientele. In May it served 11.57 million clients.

CJSC URS, a subsidiary of OAO VimpelCom, serviced 3.5% of the Ukrainian subscribers by the end of June – 1.934 million people against 1.893 million in May.
