Kyiv, July 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian banks ended the first half of 2009 with a net loss of UAH 14.321 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine has reported on its Web site.

"As of July 1, 2009, the banks' losses ran to UAH 14.3 million, which is connected with an increase in the banks' spending, in particular, in payments to their reserves to secure active operations, which as of July 1, 2009, totaled UAH 33 billion," reads the report.

The banks' net losses April through June alone grew to UAH 7.3 billion, up from UAH 7.02 billion in January through March.

The NBU also said the banks' revenues in the first half of 2009 increased by 48.1% year-over-year, to UAH 72.038 billion, while expenditures grew by 94.7%, to UAH 86.359 billion.
