13:42 UKRAINIAN AGRICULTURE MINISTER CRITICIZING REGIONS FOR SLACK FORMATION OF GRAIN RESERVES
Kyiv, August 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Yuriy Melnyk has said that the work of regional power bodies on the making up of grain reserves is inefficient. "We see the simulation of stocking up [grain by the regions] as in the previous years," he said in an interview with the Uriadovy Kurier government's newspaper published on Wednesday. He said that as of late July, only 140,000 tonnes of grain with the over 1.5 million tonne target was bought, while the regions paid for even less amount of grain. The minister said that the work on the making up of regional resources is inefficient in Crimea, Donetsk, Mykolaiv and Zakarpattia regions. As reported, this year the regions are to buy 1.531 million tonnes for own grain reserves. Experts say that Ukraine this year will harvest 42-43 million tonnes of grain against 53.3 million tonnes last year.
