Kyiv, August 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian steel companies received licenses to export 52,058 tonnes of cold-rolled steel products to Russia between July 1, 2009 and August 1, 2009, or 24.79% of the 210,000-tonne quota for the year to June 30, 2010, a source at the Economy Ministry has told Interfax.

The ministry said that the quota is distributed every quarter for two companies – Zaporizhstal (183,750 tonnes) and Illich Steel Mill (26,250 tonnes).

At present, licenses for around 6,563 tonnes or 25% of the quota were issued to Illich Steel Mill and for 45,495 tonnes or 24.76% of the quota – to Zaporizhstal.

As reported, the Ukrainian cabinet has approved the size of quotas on the supply of Ukrainian cold-rolled steel to Russia by June 30, 2010, according to a three-year agreement on the regulation of cold-rolled steel supplies to Russia signed in June by the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry and the Ukrainian Economy Ministry.

According to a cabinet resolution of July 25, 2007, the 2007 quota is set at 200,000 tonnes, from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 at 205,000 tonnes, and from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 at 210,000 tonnes.

The annual quota for Zaporizhstal in the first year from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 was set at 175,000 tonnes and for Illich Steel Mill – 25,000 tonnes. The mills received licenses to export the full size of their quotas. The quota for the second year from July 1, 2008 to July 1, 2009 was used by 97.49% (199,853 tonnes), while the quota was set at 205,000 tonnes.
