Kyiv, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian maritime ports in January to June 2009 saw their net profit rise by 3.3 times, to UAH 952.2 million year-on-year, according to the press service of the Transport and Communications Ministry of Ukraine.

The ports' income grew by 60%, to UAH 4.699 billion.

Yuzhny port saw a profit of UAH 308.98 million in the first half of 2009, increasing it by 4.15 times compared to 2008.

Odesa port saw its net profit rise by 85%, to UAH 199.632 million.

Illichivsk port over the six months saw its net profit rise by over five times, to UAH 161.615 million.

Mykolaiv port increased its profit by 5.8 times, to UAH 32.376 million, Kherson port by 47 times, to UAH 23.747 million, Kerch port by 8.5 times, to UAH 24.623 million, Feodosia port by 30.6 times, to UAH 11.42 million, and Sevastopol port by seven times, to UAH 5.199 million.

Cargo handling at ports in the first half of 2009 fell by 15.3%, to 77.2 million tonnes.

Import cargo handling fell by 54.9%, transit cargo transshipment by 22.8%, and domestic cargo handling by 65%. At the same time, export cargo handling grew by 14.7%.
