Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian chemical industry's losses from the production of nitrogenous fertilizers in January to June 2009 were UAH 442 million, Industry Minister Volodymyr Novytsky said at a meeting with chemical sector representatives in Kyiv.

"The losses from the production of nitrogenous fertilizers over the six months were UAH 442 million," he said.

He said that the fall in the production of mineral fertilizers in the period was 23% compared to 2008, and the fall in ammonia output was 44%.

The minister said that the decrease in natural gas consumption by the nitric chemical sector in the first half of 2009 was 1.7 billion cubic meters compared to 2008. Novytsky said that phosphoric fertilizer producers are practically idle and "phosphoric fertilizer sales on the domestic market have fallen by almost 38%."
