Kyiv, August 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian insurance companies in January through June 2009 boosted the collection of insurance premiums on policies for obligatory insurance of vehicle owner civil liability to third parties, also known as OSAGO, by 6% year-on-year, to UAH 637.799 million, the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU) has said.

OSAGO insurance claims payments grew by 23% over the period under review, to UAH 239.491 million.

The sale of OSAGO policies in the first half of 2009 rose by 7%, to 3.376 million policies.

From January through June 2009, insurance companies settled 32,242 cases, which was 3% up on the same period in 2008.

In the first six months, the bureau's fund for safeguarding insurance claimants paid UAH 14.549 million, which was 43% up on January-June 2008, and settled 1,324 cases, which was 30% up year-over-year.
