UKRAINE'S CABINET PERMITS SIX CHEMICAL COMPANIES TO BUY IMPORTED GAS FROM NONRESIDENTS, SAYS RESOLUTION

Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian government has said that six nitric mineral fertilizer producers can buy imported gas from nonresidents in 2009.

The decision is stipulated in cabinet resolution No. 881-r of July 29,2009.

However, the document does not contain the names of the companies that are allowed to buy natural gas from nonresidents.

The co-owner of OJSC Stirol (Horlivka in Donetsk region), Mykola Yankovsky, told Interfax-Ukraine that the list would includes six plants - CJSC Severodonetsk Azot Amalgamation (Luhansk region), Odesa Port-Side Plant, OJSC Stirol Concern, OJSC Dniproazot (Dniprodzerzhynk in Dnipropetrovsk region), OJSC Rivneazot and OJSC Azot (Cherkasy).

As reported, the cabinet on June 3, 2009 permitted six chemical companies to buy gas from nonresidents passing over National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy.

Later, Ukrainian Presidential Commissioner for International Energy Security Bohdan Sokolovsky said that a resolution approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine permitting six chemical enterprises to buy gas from nonresidents runs contrary to the long-term gas contracts signed in January 2009.
