Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has prolonged for two months an antidumping investigation into syringe imports from Spain, Germany, China, Britain, and Northern Ireland, which was started on July 23, 2008.

According to a decision of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade of July 21, which was printed in government newspaper Uriadovy Kurier on July 30, the decision was made due to the need to further study information provided by the Health Ministry which was not given during the investigation.

The commission decision comes into effect from the moment it is published.

As reported, Ukraine on July 23, 2008, launched an antidumping investigation into the import of disposable syringes from the countries mentioned.

The investigation started on the basis of a claim filed by OJSC Gemoplast in Odesa region and CJSC Tiumen-Mediko-Smela in Cherkasy region.

The investigation covers two-milliliter disposable syringes from China, five-milliliter ones from China and Spain, and ten-milliliter ones from the other above-mentioned countries.

According to the claim, the syringes are imported to Ukraine at prices lower than those that are in effect on the domestic markets of those countries. A price difference is between $17.69 and $90.42 per 1,000 units.

Moreover, Gemoplast and Tiumen-Mediko-Smela say that their sales of two- and five-milliliter syringes on the domestic market have declined and their share in domestic consumption has shrunk.
