SABMILLER SEES BEER SALES IN RUSSIA FALL 9% IN Q2

Moscow. July 31 (Interfax) - Brewing giant SABMiller saw sales of its beer in Russia fall 9% by volume in the second quarter of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, the company said in a press release.

The company's share of the market remained unchanged in the quarter despite the drop in sales.

SABMiller saw global beer sales remain unchanged in the period and sales of non-alcoholic beverages grow 2%.

SABMiller was formed from the merger of U.S. company Miller Brewing and South African Breweries. SABMiller has had operations in Russia since 1998. The company owns breweries in Kaluga and Vladivostok and is also building a plant in Ulyanovsk that is to open in 2009.

The company has invested more than $700 million in Russia. SABMiller has a 10% share of the Russian beer market by value and 6% by volume, according to AC Nielsen data for 2008.
