Moscow, August 6 (Interfax) - Russian electricity exports declined 2.3% to 7.7 billion kilowatt-hours in January-June 2009 compared to the same period last year and 17% by value to $320.3 million, the Federal Customs Service reported. Electricity exports to countries outside the CIS grew 23% to 7.17 billion kWh in January-June but fell 4.5% by value to $297.2 million. Exports to the CIS fell more than 67% to 526 million kWh worth $23.1 million. Imports of electricity to Russia, meanwhile, fell 28.2% to 1.26 billion kWh in the six months and by 18.3% in value terms to $27.2 million. Electricity imports from outside the CIS amounted to 93.3 million kWh (down 8.4% year-on-year ) worth $2.5 million (down 22%). Inter RAO UES handles the import and export of electricity to Russia. It was previously part of electricity holding RAO UES, but has since been transferred to the control of the Rosatom state corporation. | |
