Moscow. July 20 (Interfax) - Russian railway transport of cargo in June 2009 dropped by 13.9% to 92.6 million tonnes in comparison with the same period of 2008, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

The drop of cargo shipment in June (against June 2008) was posted for all types of cargo excluding grain (up 23.7%) and coal (up 5.7%).

An increase against May was posted for all types of cargo excluding oil and petroleum products (down 3.1%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (down 13.9%) and forestry shipments (down 5.3%).

For the first time in several months, grain cargo showed a negative trend against the previous month. In June, grain transport by railway slipped by 0.9% in comparison with May. This was largely the result of the close of the 2008-2009 grain season.
