Moscow. July 27 (Interfax) - Russian farmers had harvested 29.3 million tonnes of grain as of July 27, or 2.1 million hectares fewer than on the same date of 2008, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.

Grain and pulse crops have been harvested from an area of 10.1 million hectares, which is 1.6 million hectares more than a year ago and makes up 21.2% of the total area planted.

Crop yield totals 2.89 tonnes per hectare so far this year compared to 3.67 tonnes on the same date of 2008.

Grain has been planted on a total of 47.8 million hectares this year.  The Agriculture Ministry expects the gross grain harvest to total 85 million tonnes this year compared to 108.1 million tonnes in 2008.
