Moscow, August 6 (Interfax) - Russia increased food exports 170% by value and 460% by volume in the first half of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said in a report. A major increase in exports of wheat, barley, sunflower seeds and sunflower oil led to the higher figures in the half. Food imports fell 17.2% by value in the half. Imports of fresh and frozen meat declined 28% to 513,500 tonnes for a total of $1.68 billion in the six months. Poultry imports fell 38% to 362,700 tonnes valued at $397.45 million. Russia reduced imports of fresh fish 4.9% in the half, cheese and curd - 17.1%, butter - 28.7%, citrus fruits - 6.1%, tea - 13%, sunflower oil - 89.4%, herbs - 44.3% and granulated sugar - 16.3%. | |
