Moscow, July 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on July 23 approved the concept for a Russian federal program on new-generation nuclear technologies to span a period from 2010 to 2020.

The concept consists of two mutually alternative scenarios.

In the first scenario, fast-neutron reactors with bismuth coolants would be the core technology. This would put the cost of the program at 109.7 billion rubles, including the cost of fuel. A 101.3-billion-ruble share of the sum would come from the national budget.

This scenario would, however, entail a risk the other scenario would eliminate. The latter scenario would involve designing new types of reactors and would hence mean that an extra 17.9 billion rubles would have to be raised from extrabudgetary sources.
