OWNER OF SUNKEN SHIP LANGELAND INVITES FAMILIES OF CREWMEMBERS TO PLACE OF TRAGEDY

Kyiv, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Myklebusthaug Management, owner of the sunken ship the Langeland, has invited the families of the ship's crewmembers to visit the site of the tragedy.

"We are still awaiting information from Swedish Authorities about their further plans for search and investigation. They have, however ruled out the possibility of using divers to examine the wreck of MV Langeland as this is considered too dangerous due to sea depth and currents," the official press release says.

"For the relatives, Myklebusthaug Management have invited representatives of the families to travel to the site where the vessel has been located and to provide them with information from Search and Rescue personnel. We will also arrange for a proper ceremony at the site, as consolation for the bereaved," the press statement reads.

The Langeland, which was carrying a cargo of stone to the Norwegian city of Moss, with a Ukrainian-Russian crew of six, sank near the Oslofjord, a bay located off the west coast of Sweden, in the early hours of July 31.

The Norwegian maritime rescue center received a signal from the ship that it was listing and sinking. Life vests and life rafts have been found at the site where the ship sank.

Ministry of Transport and Communications has formed a workgroup of experts to investigate the loss of the Langeland.
