Moscow, July 31 (Interfax) - The overdue loan rate at Russian banks rose to 4.2% in June from 3.9% previously, the Central Bank of Russia said in materials.

The overdue loans totaled 830.1 billion rubles as of July 1.

The 20 biggest banks accounted for 549.1 billion rubles in overdue loans, up from 507 billion rubles at the beginning of the month.

The amount of overdue ruble-denominated loans rose to 630.1 billion rubles as of July 1 from 598.9 billion rubles a month earlier. The overdue rate of those loans increased to 4.5% from 4.3%.

The amount of overdue foreign-denominated loans increased to 200 billion rubles ($6.39 billion) up from 183.4 billion rubles ($5.92 billion) at the beginning of the month. The overdue rate of those loans increased to 3.3% in the month from 3%.

It was reported in mid-July that Central Bank First Deputy Chairman Gennady Melikyan said the pace of growth in overdue loans slowed to 5.9% in June.

"The growth in overdue debt is falling and that's a favorable result," he said.

The growth rates in previous months were 9.8%, 12% and, before that, about 20%, he said.

Melikyan said those figures did not include data for Russia's biggest bank, Sberbank Russia (RTS: SBER). He said that excluding Sberbank overdue loans rose to 675 billion rubles as of the beginning of June, out of loans totaling 14.2 trillion rubles.

Thus, excluding Sberbank, the overdue loan rate was 4.8% based on data as of mid-July.

Melikyan said bank loan loss reserves grew 8.8% in June, the first month the reserves have grown at a faster pace than overdue loans.
