Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Kyiv-based Oranta national joint-stock insurance company January through June 2009 collected UAH 371 million in insurance premiums, which was 21% down on the same period of 2008.

Oranta paid out about UAH 170 million in insurance claims over the period under review, which was 10% up on the first half of 2008, the company said in a press release. The level of the company's payments was 45%, whereas it was 35% January through June 2008.

The company forecasts that a gap between the collected insurance premiums and payments will narrow due to an increase in insurance fees.

As the company's press service said, since the beginning of the third quarter, the insurer has been showing positive growth in insurance premium collection. The level of daily receipts has increased by 25%, from UAH 2 million to UAH 2.5 million in insurance premiums collected by the regional chain every day.

The trends are linked with the reorientation of the chain to alternative banking and car dealer sales channels, reads the press release.
