Kyiv, July 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky is on leave from July 24 to 31 and will go on leave again on August 15-22.

Chernovetsky signed the respective resolutions himself, with prior approval from Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko.

Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Anatoliy Holubchenko will assume Chernovetsky's duties as a head of the administration. Secretary of Kyiv City Council Oles Dovhy will manage the council affairs.

According to the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko in the Kyiv City Council, Chernovetsky publicly said on June 26 that he is not going to take a vacation, because of the difficult political and economic situation in Ukraine.

The faction said that the mayor has been absent from the capital for the last four months, having contracted pneumonia on March 27 and officially returned to work on April 12.

However, the BYT officials said that the mayor has failed to solve any of the capital's issues since his return and now wants to go on a leave again.

"Taking into account Chernovetsky's irresponsible attitude to his duties as a mayor, the BYT suggests he resign due to his inability to work," the BYT's official statement read.
