Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – OJSC Zaliv Shipyard (Kerch, Crimea), a partner of AvtoKrAZ holding company, in January to June 2009 saw UAH 21.8 million in net profit, while in January to June 2008 its net losses stood at UAH 12.7 million, the company's press service reported last week.

The shipyard's sales in H1, 2009 jumped by almost 80% or UAH 73.6 million year-over-year, to UAH 165.8 million.

Over the six months to June 2009 the company boosted production by over 50%, to UAH 263.9 million.

Over the period under review, the shipyard built three ships and sent them to customers – two universal container ships for Dutch Bodewes Shipyards and one dry cargo ship for Dutch Damen Shipyards Bergum.

OJSC Zaliv Shipyard is one of the leading shipbuilding enterprises in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Its core business is the production of tankers, chemical and container carriers, and drilling platforms for oil and gas extraction.

In 2006, the company was included in the AvtoKrAZ holding company.

The average monthly number of the plant's employees grew by 97 people, to 2,227.

OJSC Zaliv Shipyard in 2008 saw a net income of UAH 240 million, which was 46% up compared to 2007. Its net loss in 2008 was UAH 87.7 million.

In 2009, the shipyard plans to double production year-over-year, to UAH 521 million. The projected sales are estimated at UAH 430 million in 2009, which is 80% up year-over-year.
