Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia is developing a plan to start operating high-speed trains (trains capable of speeds up to 160 km/h) by 2020, according to a press release of the company, referring to Ihor Breus, the first deputy chief of the main passenger department at Ukrzaliznytsia.

The previous plan was designed to run up to 2015, but it is now necessary to take into consideration changes in the country's economy, Breus said.

The launch of high-speed rail services will require a thorough modernization of the railway sector, its energy supply, communications, and a number of measures to separate passenger and cargo traffic mainly in the areas of passenger and mixed (cargo and passengers) train services.
