Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Elita-Center fraud victims have said they hope the appointment of one of their number, Serhiy Dorotych, as the first deputy regional development and construction minister will mean their investments are more quickly returned and apartments allocated to them. "Serhiy [Dorotych] knows our problems and took an active part in drawing up mechanisms to settle them," reads a press release of Center for the Protection of Rights organization, which represents the interests of Elita-Center fraud victims, citing Yuriy Fedorenko, the center's board chairman. He also said that the appointment of a person who experienced firsthand the problems of citizens who invested in housing construction is a cabinet attempt to change the situation on the construction market. Dorotych was chosen first deputy regional development and construction minister under cabinet resolution No. 807-r of July 29, 2009. As reported, a massive scam was uncovered on the real estate market in Kyiv early in 2006. About 1,759 citizens were victims of the Elita-Center Group, the representatives of which took money from the public as payment for housing that was not built. The total sum stolen from the victims was about UAH 400 million. | |
