Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Bogdan Corporation, one of the largest operators on the car market in Ukraine, has indefinitely suspended the construction of bus plant in Russia that was to have been started in the second half of 2009, Bogdan Corporation Press Secretary Serhiy Krasulia has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Krasulia, the corporation has not abandoned the project, but currently, in the conditions of the sharp decrease in bus production and sales, the corporation's priority is to make use of its existing capacity in Ukraine, retain jobs at Ukrainian plants and pay wages to its staff.

Krasulia said that the corporation has invested about $20 million into the construction of the bus plant in Russia.

Bogdan Corporation was established in February 2005 with the aim of implementing large-scale automotive projects.

In June 2008, Bogdan Corporation launched a passenger car plant in Cherkasy, investing over $330 million in the project.

Bus production in Ukraine in the first half of 2009 fell by 12.5 times year-on-year, to 456 buses.
