BANK KYIV'S NET LOSSES IN H1, 2009 COME TO UAH 1.2 B

Kyiv, July 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The net losses of Bank Kyiv in January to June 2009 reached UAH 1.203 billion, while in the comparable period last year its net profit was estimated at UAH 16.106 million, the bank has reported in the mass media.

The bank said that its net losses in Q2, 2009 stood at UAH 820.559 million (UAH 382.009 million in Q1, 2009), while year-over-year the bank posted UAH 10.827 million in net profit.

The bank's total assets in H1, 2009 fell by 29.3%, to UAH 3.456 billion, while its total liabilities went down by 5.3%, to UAH 4.069 billion.

The bank's statutory capital plunged by 100 times, from UAH 225 million to UAH 2.25 million.

Bank Kyiv was established in 1993. The NBU (National Bank of Ukraine) introduced a temporary administration at the bank on February 9, 2009. The Ukrainian cabinet on June 10 decided to buy stakes of from 86% to 99% in three banks – Ukrgasbank, Rodovid Bank and Bank Kyiv.

As of July 1, 2009, the largest shareholders in the bank were Mykola Marchenko (23.7%), Viktor Marchenko (23.93%0 and OJSC Kyivproject (15.27%).

The NBU said that as of April 1, 2009 the bank ranked 40th among the 182 operating banks in Ukraine in terms of total assets (UAH 4.262 billion).
