Kyiv, July 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Agrarian Fund has allocated UAH 60 million in loans to farmers as of late July, and received 46,000 tonnes of grain as collateral, Agriculture Minister Yuriy Melnyk has said.

He said in Kyiv on Tuesday that the fund had received applications from farm enterprises for loans worth over UAH 200 million.

Melnyk said that there was currently UAH 730 million on the Agrarian Fund's accounts.

As reported, the Agrarian Fund started purchasing new harvest grain on collateral from July 1. The fund hopes to accept 1.5-1.6 million tonnes of grain as collateral.

Moreover, the fund should buy 889,000 tonnes of this year's food grain for the state food reserve.

In the 2008/2009 marketing year, the Agrarian Fund conducted operations with around three million tonnes of grain. It bought 1.2 million tonnes of grain under direct contracts, accepted the same amount as collateral, and also purchased 640,000 tonnes of third- and fourth-grade wheat under forward contracts.
